OUR ETHOS
EXCELLING THROUGH TRADITIONAL LEARNING PRINCIPLES
Founded by Mr. Kenn Lau, FKA delivers a content-rich English curriculum in the spirit of Professor E.D. Hirsch's Core Knowledge tradition — facts, history, literature and language, mastered through structured, sustained study.

A CLASSICAL CURRICULUM
A carefully sequenced body of knowledge — literature, history, geography and grammar — taught in English.

SMALL, CONSIDERED CLASSES
Lessons capped to preserve attention and dialogue between teacher and pupil.

THE DRAWING ROOM
An intellectual sanctuary, in the British country-house tradition, for self-study and quiet reflection.
A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER
"With degrees in education and administration, and an upbringing across international schools in Hong Kong and British boarding schools, I am well-positioned to instil in my students a genuinely global perspective — and a love of knowing things well."
MR. KENN LAU
FOUNDER & TEACHER

WHAT IS CORE CURRICULUM?
CONTENT, NOT MERELY SKILL
Core Curriculum is a curriculum designed by University of Virginia Professor E.D. Hirsch which is content-focused, as opposed to skill-focused. Professor Hirsch's education philosophy is that high-functioning individuals adept to the needs of the world regularly draws on background knowledge in order to foster understanding and engender comprehension, instead of drawing upon learned skills (e.g. identification of main topic, able to recognise keywords in texts).
Core Curriculum is designed to counter misguided trends in modern education, as it increasingly emphasises skill-based learning, which according to Professor Hirsch, does not effectively prepare students to handle the needs of the modern world. Research increasingly shows that reading skills taught simply cannot be freely transferrable between texts, and without background knowledge, no amount of reading skills can adequately compensate.

THE DRAWING ROOM
AN INTELLECTUAL SANCTUARY FOR OUR STUDENTS
Inspired by the drawing rooms of old British country manors — where guests would withdraw after dinner for elevated intellectual pursuits — our Drawing Room is a comfortable, quiet space where pupils may study, read and complete their homework before or after their lessons.
SEVEN PUPILS, NEVER MORE
SEVEN PUPILS, NEVER MORE
Each group is capped at seven students. A true seminar happens only where dialogue is possible — every voice is heard, every pupil is known to the teacher.
